Background to South Swindon Parish Council Parks
The Parish Council has a lease for the Town Gardens, Queens Park and GWR Park. Since becoming responsible for managing the parks we have undergone a program of investment to improve them.
In Town Gardens we have made improvements to the pond, agreed a new lease with the bowls club and restored the VE Day monument. We are in the process of restoring the historic Town Gardens Gates, restoring the Sundial in the Rose Garden and redeveloping the Bowl area. For more information on the history of Town Gardens visit this webpage.
In Queens Park we continue to make improvements to the Secret Garden, are in the process of establishing a VE/VJ Day War Memorial and we are looking in to the redevelopment of the Queens Park Hothouse area. For more information on the history of Queens Park visit this webpage.
In GWR Park (formerly Faringdon Road Park) we have installed a WW1 Memorial, restored the Human Sundial with new resin bound gravel and refurbished the park's play area. For more information on the history of GWR Park visit this link.
The Public Toilets at Town Gardens are open from 7.30am to 3.30pm Mon-Thurs; 7.30am to 12.30pm on Friday; 7.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday. Please follow the Covid guidance stated inside the toilets for yours and others safety. The Public Toilets are closed for the time being due to a burst pipe causing flooding.
Booking the Parks for Events
The Parish Council is committed to keeping the parks open for all visitors free of charge. However we do consider hiring sections of the park out to companies and community groups. For more information please contact the Parish Council's Events and Communications Manager, Matt Bradley. Email email@example.com or call 01793 312006.
